Exploring our home – five must-do walks in and around Chichester

Since moving in last April, we’ve made every effort to explore our new home as much as we can. From hikes up Kingley Vale to summer days spent at West Wittering beach, we love where we live and want to share it with you!

I know everyone raves about where they live, whether it be the hustle and bustle of a city or the crashing waves along the coast. Lucky for us, we’re both country bumpkins and love living within close proximity to some of the most beautiful inland and coastal walks England has to offer.

Here are five walks in Chichester that we think everyone visiting the area should try!

1. Bracklesham Bay to West Wittering

We have been visiting the Wittering’s since the beginning of our relationship, and nothing quite beats a winters walk along a blustery beach. The Wittering’s stretch from West Wittering and East Head, through East Wittering to Bracklesham Bay. The beach has both sand and stone and is perfect for dog walkers in winter. It’s a pretty easy walk and you can pick and choose how far you’d like to walk so perfect for all abilities!

We have also enjoyed some beautiful English summer days at the beach too!

Nb. Be aware, you have to pay for parking at West and East Wittering all year round and parking can be a little pricey in peak season (summer months).

2. Kingley Vale

Despite Kingley Vale only being about 5 mins drive from Mar’s parents house, we’ve only recently walked up to the top! The walk takes approximately 2 hours and is a little challenging in places with slightly uneven terrain but the views from the top are well worth it!

The trail goes through beautiful woodland and there is loads of wildlife along the route, so is great for kids too!

3. Centurion Way

Centurion Way is 5.5 miles long and goes all the way from Fishbourne (south of Chichester) to the village of West Dean (north of Chichester). You can walk, cycle or run along the trail and often at weekends its packed full of all sorts of people enjoying the beautiful surroundings! In summer, we often cycle from our house, via Mar’s parents, to West Dean where we stop at the local farm shop!

The path follows the old dismantled rail route from Chichester to Midhurst and is suitable for all as the terrain is mostly flat. Along the way you can see landscapes, nature and sculptures so there is definitely something for everyone!

4. Fishbourne to Dell Quay

Dell Quay is located slightly further around the waters edge from Fishbourne and is home to a very lovely waterside pub where we have spent many summer evenings. It’s lovely to walk across the fields before stopping for a nice coffee or evening drink at the Crown and Anchor pub!

We have seen some of the most spectacular sunsets whilst walking this route and we’re always met by lots of families, couples and dog walkers along the way!

5. Bosham Habour

Located just one village along from Fishbourne sits the beautiful Bosham. The village is located right on the waters edge and is home to plenty of walks. Our favourite is a lovely walk around the harbour, which is great for those who love the salty sea breeze!

Be sure to keep your eyes peeled as there’s a whole host of wildlife living in this area from Egrets to seals, if you’re lucky!

Although there are SO many more walks on offer in the Chichester area, these are our top five and the ones we recommend you start with!

We will continue to explore the area to find new walks and in the meantime if you know of any must-do walks nearby, please let us know!!

We hope you love our home as much as we do!

Love Char & Mar xxx
