Well, what can I say – 2018 was an absolutely amazing year for us. From start to end, we had some of the best times and made some of our most fond memories. We were lucky enough to have the opportunity to travel and explore the world whilst still spending loads of time with family and friends. After one of the best years ever and overindulging during the festive period, we thought what a better way to start 2019 than a review of the year just gone!
Winter / Spring
Our year started with our trip to the Americas, and what a trip that was! We’d decided around 18 months previous that we wanted to go away, but we just couldn’t see a good time that worked for both of us. With Marcus doing a masters and me beginning my career, we just didn’t think it would be feasible. BUT after much deliberation and contemplation, we realised we were much better to embark on this adventure sooner, rather than later – when we had more responsibilities and ties. So in June 2017, we booked our outbound flights to Rio de Janeiro for the following January.
Six months came and went, and we were at the airport ready to leave. Three months of no work – just pure travelling, exploring and experiencing new cultures. We travelled through four countries and 16 states across the 12 weeks, fitting in as much as we possibly could.
Our travels took us to some amazing places and sights – all the way from Christ the Redeemer in Brazil, to the Statue of Liberty in NYC, to the Grand Canyon in Arizona, to the beautiful Niagara Falls in Canada. We were so fortunate to be able to fit so much in and experience so many different places in such a short space of time.
Those three months passed in a flash and before we knew it, it was April and we were flying back to London from Toronto.

Who would have thought that after a trip of a lifetime our year could get any better… Summer 2018 was one of the best yet! We had a few smaller trips lined up, including an annual trip to Tenerife and a few smaller city breaks. Although most of our Summer (June – August) was spent in the UK, it certainly didn’t feel like we were experiencing a typical English summer. The weather was on our side for pretty much the entire summer and we spent many evenings and weekends lapping up the sun by the pool, going to the races enjoying yummy barbecues and spending time with our friends and family.
Our trip to Tenerife came at the perfect time. We’d been back in the country for just over two months, Marcus’ birthday had been and gone and we were SO ready to get away again. The weather was amazing and it was the perfect way to relax after getting back into the swing of work and real life…
Just like everything great, Summer came and went in the blink of an eye but Autumn was definitely a time we were both looking forward to and why shouldn’t we with the change of the seasons and beautiful colours that appear – we both love going out for walks in the autumn and enjoying the beautiful sunsets. BUT we were even more excited for autumn this year as I was off to Grand Canaria, Marcus to Dublin and then we were both off to Lisbon! We absolutely love our city breaks, and they’re the perfect way to get away and explore a new place without using up too many annual leave days (vital for those stuck in the 9-5)! Back to Lisbon though – what a place! We fell in love with Portugal in the short three days we were there and will 100% be going back to explore more of the beautiful country that is only a few hours flight from the UK.
Along came the short days and cold nights, but who can complain when Christmas is coming and two more city breaks were in the pipeline! December saw us visit two equally beautiful cities, Edinburgh and Oslo. Again, these were perfect destinations for us as they were close enough for us to fit into a weekend getaway. Edinburgh definitely got us both in the Christmas spirit – with all the pretty lights, Christmas markets and festive drinks (mulled wine galore!!). To then head off to the snowy capital of Norway a few days before Christmas was amazing! We explored the Fjords and the snowy hills of Oslo before heading back for the festivities with our families and friends.
Thank you 2018
I guess all we have left to say, is thank you. Thank you 2018 for allowing us to go on some of the best trips of our lives and make some of our most fond memories, these will stay with us forever.
We are both so excited for what is to come over the next few years, and cannot wait to share with you what we plan on doing and where we will be visiting in 2019 – we have some exciting trips in the pipeline and cannot wait to tick more off our bucketlist!
We hope you all enjoyed 2018 as much as we did and we wish you all a happy and healthy 2019!!
Adios for now,
Love Char & Mar xxx
