After a week in Denver, we had a very short but sweet stop off in Fort Worth, Texas. Whilst we knew we wouldn’t have much time to do everything we wanted, we definitely got a great taste of what Texas life is like! Our Airbnb was only a short distance from the stockyards which was fantastic! As we only had one day in Fort Worth, we spent the majority of it exploring the stockyards and all it has to offer, including a steakhouse (of course), Honky Tonk and the arena.
Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t great but we didn’t let this dampen our spirits and headed out late morning to explore. Even the walk to the stockyards gave us a bit of a taste of what Texas was like, everything is pretty old fashioned and some of the bars even have saloon doors (like in movies!). Upon arrival we realised we were in Cowtown. All the locals wear cowboy hats and lots ride round on horses!! We walked down the road, to the Stockyards Station, taking in all our surroundings and having a quick look in some of the shops! We quickly realised it was lunch time so wandered to a steakhouse we found on tripadvisor – the food was great and very traditional! After lunch we walked over to the cattle stands, via the rodeo arena, and ended up having a brief conversation with a real life cowboy about the cattle drive later that afternoon. He filled us in on the cattle drive where longhorn cows, that are commonly found in Texas, are walked through the stockyards! After witnessing the spectacle we headed off to Billy Bob’s – the worlds LARGEST honky tonk. A game of pool, a few beers and some line dancing spectating later, we headed back to our Airbnb – content that we’d had a pretty good, albeit short, experience of Texas!
Off to the bright lights of Vegas next and to begin our month long road trip around California (and the surrounding states) – woohoo! Updates to follow… 🎰🚘
